Vancouver, British Columbia Visit
This post highlights a previous trip to Vancouver, British Columbia back in August 2018. Back then, the Civic Hotel was just opening and not all amenities were fully available. We rented a car from the airport and drove to the hotel.
The Civic Hotel
Driving from Vancouver International Airport to the Civic Hotel in Surrey
The Civic Hotel is connected to the Surrey City Hall. Being new, the hotel and the hotel rooms have a very modern feel. The room has a nice view showing some condos under construction with the sun setting in the background.
Kitslano Beach
Route from Civic Hotel in Surrey to Kitslano Beach
We are from the Caribbean so beaches generally involve warm water. The water felt more along the lines of ice water to us but I am guessing it gets warmer at other times.

Granville Island
The beach is not far from Granville Island by car. Granville Island is a nice mix of restaurants, food markets, cultural and historical spots.
Stanley Park
The drive from Granville Island to Stanley Park is a bit further
Whistler
We dedicated an entire day to visiting Whistler, BC but there are hotels and other accomodations which would make overnight stays possible.
It is about 2 hours from the Civic Hotel to Whistler
Gastown and Downtown Vancouver Waterfront
If you wanted to visit Vancouver but did not want to rent a car, you could use the Sky Train public transit service. I did test it on a particular day just to gauge the experience.
Travelling to Downtown Vancouver via SkyTrain
After this, I headed back to the Civic Hotel in Surrey via SkyTrain
We drove back to downtown Vancouver later in the day
